Box Spring

Do we need a box spring with this bed? Is there anything else we need to buy other than a full size mattress for the bed & a twin size mattress for the trundle? What inch mattress do we need to both?
Asked by: Candy
A Box Spring is not needed for the Summit Black Full Bookcase Daybed Bed With 2- Drawer Captains Trundle. We do recommend a Bunky Board to protect the slats of the main bed. For the trundle we recommend our "Lofty Mattress" It is the only mattress that will accommodate the trundle that we offer. The main bed portion will work with most mattresses but a 9" to 12" mattress is recommended.

Weight limit

Do you know what the weight limit is for the primary and the trundle bed? I know in the past sometimes with the slats the weight limit is very limited
Asked by: Melissa
The weight limit is pretty high, however, the bed and the slats are very cheaply made and my son, who only weighs 70 lbs causes creaking sounds every time he moves on the bed.

KIT-SUMMIT BLACK TWIN BOOKCASE DAYBED BED WITH 2-DRW CAPTAINS TRUNDLE is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from TERRIBLE BED We purchased this bed for our 11 year old son last year. When we got it, we joked that we could not have couples spend the night in it because it makes so much noise every time that the occupant moves. Fast forward one year and the bed has multiple cracks and the horizontal beam that supports the mattress completely cracked in half. All of the cracks and breaks in the wood are at "joins", which means that they are defects in manufacturing. At this point, being that one of the main beams that supports the mattress is broken, the bed is not usable. For $850 plus delivery, it should last for more than a year. We purchased his last bed for $200 at a popular Swedish "glue and screw" store. He used that bed for 7 years and it looked like new when we got rid of it during his "big boy" bedroom remodel. To say that we are disappointed is an understatement.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cheap! This bed is so cheap, it creeks every time someone gets on and the trundle drawer broke and the bed shakes- we have only owned it for 30 days! And we cannot get anyone to call us back or help us find out what we can do - so now Ill have to find a time to drive to the store. Not ideal!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Quality - do not purchase I purchased this captain bed for my 13-year-old son. It was lovely for the first year and then we started noticing cracks. Eventually the cracks turned into breaks and one by one things started to fall apart. When I called to try and get someone to fix it, I was told it is no longer under warranty. I do not believe this kind of damage is acceptable with normal usage. I would expect a $900 bedframe to last much longer than three years. I've purchased many things from Living Spaces before and have been satisfied. However this product is poor quality and I do not recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap Product I spent a lot of time researching beds for my son and reading reviews. I even went into the store to view this bed in person before purchasing and all can I say is I wasn't prepared for the poor quality of this item, even after seeing it in store. While the bed looks great walking by my son's bedroom, don't look to closely or you will see flaws in the wood and cracks from what can only be described as normal use - no rough housing on this bed. Every time someone sits on the bed, or my son even rolls over in his sleep, there are creaking sounds from the slats and cheaply made bed frame. Just the other day, my son opened the side door of the bed frame and the wood from the door, that was already cracked, broke. Unfortunately, the cheaply made door frame isn't covered under the "care" warranty. The bed is just over a year old and we are already looking for a replacement bed. Please don't waste your money on this item!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally Got a Bed After 3 months of trying to buy a bed for my daughter from 2 other companies that kept pushing delivery dates back or calling the day before delivery to tell me my bed was damaged or out of stock I went to Living Spaces picked a bed and it was delivered and set up that same day. We had to tighten a few screws but other than that the bed and trundle have been great and my daughter loves them as much as I do. Thank you for actually delivering when you promised.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what I expected I would suggest not buying anything from this store online until you've seen it in the store. This furniture was not what I expected to receive and since I ordered it online without seeing it first, I ended up paying for a delivery charge ($100) that I will never get back. I still sent the products back because I couldn't stomach paying that much money for such shoddy furniture. First I'll say that we were recommended to have the furniture delivered and assembled for us because the pieces were so "heavy" and the assembly so "complicated." Not even close to accurate. It took the installer all of 15 minutes to put the bed together. The bed is large but is made of pine and therefore not very heavy. Once it was fully assembled, I, at 8.5 months pregnant had no problem moving the bed into its position. Not all of the slats that the mattress rests on were screwed down which is probably why one person reviewed that the product was squeaky. The worst part of the bed install was the very large crack through the wood near one of the screws used to assemble the bed frame. So the installer broke the bed frame during installation and then failed to actually tell me. I found it later trying to push the trundle into place. See review on trundle if you're interested in purchasing the bed and trundle together. With the material, construction, and finishing, this bed is just not built to last.
