Do I just lay a low profile box spring on top of the slats or leave the slats out?
The Magnolia Home Monte Cane Queen Panel Bed By Joanna Gaines cannot have the slats left out. If you leave the slats out the mattress will fall through. Box Spring is recommended for this bed.

How far apart are the slats on the king size bed frame? What size low profile mattress is shown in the picture? Trying to make sure that I don’t have a gap between the mattress and the headboard.
The Magnolia Home Monte Cane King Panel Bed By Joanna Gaines has 5 slats on the bed. It is 4 ¾” to the start of the slat at the head and foot of the bed. The slats are 15 9/16” apart from where one slat ends and the next slat starts. The mattress opening is 74” width x 86” length.

Stylish and modern bed!
We really love the style of this bed, it is sturdy and easy to assemble. The only thing that could improve is the amount of slats, because otherwise you'll need to buy a boxspring.

Beautiful bed frame!
This bed is beautiful! I love it. I was looking at similar style beds and this one was by far the best priced. Plus, it is sturdy and well made. It was very easy to put together. It is lower than my last bed but I plan to remedy that with a higher mattress. Right now I have a low profile box spring with a 10 inch mattress. I think the frame can accommodate a 14 inch mattress though.

Great quality
Really beautiful and solid bed. Our stairs are really narrow and have a sharp turn, so we barely fit it up the stairs. I was so happy when it did! I have two magnolia beds and I love the quality.
