Choosing the Right Adjustable Bed for Your Home
There are a few important considerations when it comes to choosing the right adjustable base for your mattress. First, make sure your mattress is designed to be used on an adjustable bed. Memory foam and latex mattresses are good choices, but some innerspring mattresses could also work — just make sure yours is rated for use on an adjustable base, or you could break the springs.
You’ll also need to consider how you’re most comfortable operating the bed. Some have built-in controls on the side of the foundation near the head, while others come with a separate remote control that you can keep on a bedside table. Looks are also important, as many adjustable bases serve as both bedstead and box spring.
Adjustable Foundation Dimensions
Adjustable base sets are designed to exactly match the size of your standard mattress. If you’re not sure what size you’re looking for, be sure to measure your existing mattress. If you’re looking for a whole new bed, consider the sizes to know which will fit best in your bedroom:
- Twin: 39 inches wide x 75 inches long.
- Twin XL: 39 inches wide x 80 inches long.
- Full: 54 inches wide x 75 inches long.
- Queen: 60 inches wide by 80 inches long.
- King: 76 inches wide by 80 inches long.
- California King: 72 inches wide by 84 inches long.
For larger mattress sizes, you may want to purchase a split adjustable foundation, which will allow you to more easily maneuver the bed into your space. This is especially important for bedrooms on top floors, as it can be challenging to get a King size bed base up steps and around corners.
