The History of Tempur-Pedic
Back before the Tempur-Pedic mattress changed the way the world sleeps, the TEMPUR material changed the way astronauts slept. In the 1970s, NASA researchers developed a pressure-relieving material for astronauts that would evenly distribute body weight, keep the astronauts at a controlled temperature and provide the cushion and support needed for comfortable sleep in space. In the 1980s, this same material, known as TEMPUR, was released to the public – and would soon lead to the invention of the first Tempur-Pedic mattress.
What's in a Tempur-Pedic Mattress?
At the heart of every Tempur-Pedic mattress is TEMPUR material, an innovative type of memory foam designed for the following four core functions.
1. High-Conforming Comfort
Each Tempur-Pedic mattress features a thick layer of the signature TEMPUR material – designed for targeted support and high-conforming comfort.
2. Ergonomic Support Layers
To promote ergonomic alignment, the adaptive TEMPUR material responds to your every movement with high pressure-relief and targeted support.
3. Advanced Motion Separation
A Tempur-Pedic mattress incorporates innovative motion separation technology throughout its base, support and comfort layers. This helps to reduce the transfer of motion, so your partner's movement will not disturb you.
TEMPUR material is not just about providing contoured support – it is also engineered with breathable layers designed to channel excess heat away from the mattress to keep you cool and comfortable all night long.
