Could I put this together by myself? How long would it take on the average?

For the Pierce Espresso Leaning Bookcase, the assembly time is 30 minutes and you would have to bolt the shelves to the end frame pieces. The assembly instructions are included, as well as the assembly hardware!

This shelf looks more of an espresso/brown color than black in the pictures.  Is it black? It states the color is black.

How wide is the surface of the desk?

I would like to know if the surface of the desk is 32" wide or are the support pillars 32" wide measured from the outside of each pillar? My computer monitor is 32" wide exactly and if the desk is less than 32" wide my monitor would sit behind the support columns on either side which I don't want.

The Pierce Black Wall Desk has the following measurements: Width (of desk surface) - 32" Depth (of desk surface) - 19" Width (between pillars) - 28.5" Please note there's an area between the pillars where your monitor might fit.
