Are the tension cables on the sides really necessary or just styling that can be taken off (or never put on)?
The tension cables of the Jacob Desk USB and Power Outlet are decorative only. You can unscrew them to remove them, though please note the holes for the screws will show.

Went to many furniture stores looking for a desk. Not much of a selection at most and even a store that specialized in desks was disappointing. Pleasantly surprised to find such a high quality desk in the kid's section. Beautifully made and fit the spot perfectly. The only thing that I wish was better is the depth of the desk. There isn't much space to work on after putting the computer and printer on it. Still very, very happy with this purchase.

I was excited about this purchase. The desk took a month to deliver and was missing the hutch. Box was heavily damaged and the desk drawer was smashed. I'm 3 phone calls into client care and currently has not been resolved.
