Customer Questions

Is there any assembly required?

Will this bed be delivered fully assembled? If yes, can it be taken apart to transport? It cannot be delivered to our beach house so I have to deliver it to our main residence.
Asked by: Annie
We picked up our bed as we were outside of the delivery area. We did have to assemble it. I would guess it took about 30 minutes. It was relatively easy, but both my husband & I worked on it together. I don't think it's a one person job.

Can I put a box spring and mattress on this frame?

Or can I adjust the slats to make the mattress taller?
Asked by: amas2337
I would not recommend putting a box frame on this bed. It's not needed so the slats aren't adjustable and if you put a box frame, it'll stick out and you'll see it. I was told in the store that they sell a small/thinner box frame type thing to go along with this bed in case you have a thin mattress or a memory foam thats thin. I imagine its the right size so it doesn't stick out and then you can have your mattress taller. I guess it'll have your mattress lay right where the frame is. Because I have a traditional spring mattress with a topper on top of it, they didn't recommend the box spring thing. Hope that helps!

Is it solid wood or laminate?

Is the back board and legs laminate? Does it scratch easy? thanks
Asked by: Freddy
This frame is really heavy which leads me to believe it’s made of solid wood. When I think of laminated wood, I think of ikea quality which this definitely is not

What are the exact dimensions of the queen mattress that would fit exactly into the bed frame?

What are the dimensions of the inside of the frame where the mattress would fit? One reviewer noted that there was a 5 inch discrepancy between their queen mattress and the space within the bed frame for it.
Asked by: FABulou5
It's a terrible queen sized frame. At 63", It's 5" too wide for most queen mattresses, which is 60" standard for high end mattresses with cushioning. The Alton is also 85.5" long, which is 5.5" longer than a standard queen mattress. It doesn't make sense on why Living Spaces made a queen sized bed, that's not queen sized. There's no queen mattress that's going to fit this frame, which is too bad, because it's a good looking frame, but if your mattress has massive gaps everywhere it's useless. DON'T BUY this frame! 63"W x 85.5"D x 46.8"H

What are the dimensions of the box the bed ships in? I'd like to pick it up in store but am not sure it will fit my car.

Asked by: Nihaopizza
I'm not totally sure of the dimensions, but it actually comes in 3 boxes. We took my husbands full size pickup, and it totally filled up the back of the truck. If you just have a car, I'm thinking it's not likely to fit.

How many slats are on the queen Alton?

Is a bunky board suggested?
Asked by: MDugganCA
Didn't count them, but there are lots of slats. No need to place a board on top for support. We have a foam mattress on it and it is great.

does this bed need box spring?

Nope! It has slats that act as mattress support.

How far apart are the slats?

Looking to use this for a memory foam.
Asked by: jonizzle
Slats look about 2-2.5" apart. I purchased a bunky board in which was placed on top of the slats to support my foam mattress. That'll prevent uneven wear on your mattress. (Note, it does make the bed pretty high and mattress doesn't sit in the frame.

how big is the box if picked up in store?

Asked by: keek
You get like 4 different boxes. They fit in a minivan if you push in the passenger seats all the way.

Why does the frame weigh so much?

It seems this frame weighs quite a lot at 253 lbs. The comparable frame at West Elm is only 170 lbs. I have also looked at similar frames at other places and they don't come in anywhere near 250+ lbs. What makes this frame so much heavier/so heavy? Its weight has me reconsidering purchasing it.
Asked by: BayArea
Most likely because of the headboard. It comes in different boxes so 2 adults should be fine as to carrying it. My wife and I did so to our bedroom from the garage

KIT-ALTON CHERRY QUEEN PLATFORM BED is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 424.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would Not Recommend I purchased this bed frame July 2019 for my new Casper mattress. I've always been a fan of the MCM look. This frame seemed perfect. It was fine for about a year, but recently it has been making way too much-creaking noises. I literally can't move around at night without it making the worse creaking noises. I'm a light sleeper so its been very difficult to get a good night's rest on this bed frame. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was looking for Love the bed/structure. Looks great in my bedroom and suits my home style. It is sleek, contemporary and goes with any decor. Best purchase to date.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not standard size and squeaky I purchased the king size version of this bed and it is longer and wider than the mattress by about 4 inches on all sides. The spaces leave large gaps around the mattress, exposing the slats, it looks pretty awful. A “warranty technician” came out to inspect and determined the space is because I had my mattress pushed all the way to the top near the headboard. Shouldn’t a mattress be up at the headboard?? Apparently not with this frame. And that still doesn’t explain large side spaces. The frame is just not the correct size. In addition to the size issue, one rail squeaks terribly. It’s really a horrible bed frame and Living Spaces has done nothing to correct the issue. That was my first and last time ordering anything here. If I could give this bed frame and Living Spaces zero stars, I would.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great at first, not worth it in the end I bought this bed two years ago and couldn’t believe how great of a price it was compared to other mid-century designs exactly like it. It looks beautiful and was delivered and assembled without a problem. After two years of constant problems, like the center beams completely snapping in the first year and then constant creaking whenever I moved around on it, it completely SNAPPED in half last night! For reference, I don’t share the bed and am of average size. This is just a really poorly made bed that looks great but will not last. I cannot recommend it no matter how enticing it may be to buy.
