Customer Questions

Is there any assembly required?

Will this bed be delivered fully assembled? If yes, can it be taken apart to transport? It cannot be delivered to our beach house so I have to deliver it to our main residence.
Asked by: Annie
We picked up our bed as we were outside of the delivery area. We did have to assemble it. I would guess it took about 30 minutes. It was relatively easy, but both my husband & I worked on it together. I don't think it's a one person job.

Can I put a box spring and mattress on this frame?

Or can I adjust the slats to make the mattress taller?
Asked by: amas2337
I would not recommend putting a box frame on this bed. It's not needed so the slats aren't adjustable and if you put a box frame, it'll stick out and you'll see it. I was told in the store that they sell a small/thinner box frame type thing to go along with this bed in case you have a thin mattress or a memory foam thats thin. I imagine its the right size so it doesn't stick out and then you can have your mattress taller. I guess it'll have your mattress lay right where the frame is. Because I have a traditional spring mattress with a topper on top of it, they didn't recommend the box spring thing. Hope that helps!

Is it solid wood or laminate?

Is the back board and legs laminate? Does it scratch easy? thanks
Asked by: Freddy
This frame is really heavy which leads me to believe it’s made of solid wood. When I think of laminated wood, I think of ikea quality which this definitely is not

does this bed need box spring?

Asked by: andyyao
Nope! It has slats that act as mattress support.

How far apart are the slats?

Looking to use this for a memory foam.
Asked by: jonizzle
Slats look about 2-2.5" apart. I purchased a bunky board in which was placed on top of the slats to support my foam mattress. That'll prevent uneven wear on your mattress. (Note, it does make the bed pretty high and mattress doesn't sit in the frame.

What are the exact dimensions of the queen mattress that would fit exactly into the bed frame?

What are the dimensions of the inside of the frame where the mattress would fit? One reviewer noted that there was a 5 inch discrepancy between their queen mattress and the space within the bed frame for it.
Asked by: FABulou5
It's a terrible queen sized frame. At 63", It's 5" too wide for most queen mattresses, which is 60" standard for high end mattresses with cushioning. The Alton is also 85.5" long, which is 5.5" longer than a standard queen mattress. It doesn't make sense on why Living Spaces made a queen sized bed, that's not queen sized. There's no queen mattress that's going to fit this frame, which is too bad, because it's a good looking frame, but if your mattress has massive gaps everywhere it's useless. DON'T BUY this frame! 63"W x 85.5"D x 46.8"H

What are the dimensions of the box the bed ships in? I'd like to pick it up in store but am not sure it will fit my car.

Asked by: Nihaopizza
I'm not totally sure of the dimensions, but it actually comes in 3 boxes. We took my husbands full size pickup, and it totally filled up the back of the truck. If you just have a car, I'm thinking it's not likely to fit.

How many slats are on the queen Alton?

Is a bunky board suggested?
Asked by: MDugganCA
Didn't count them, but there are lots of slats. No need to place a board on top for support. We have a foam mattress on it and it is great.

how big is the box if picked up in store?

Asked by: keek
You get like 4 different boxes. They fit in a minivan if you push in the passenger seats all the way.

Wood color

I have furniture that is mahogany in color. Is the color cherry similar? I want something in the same family of color.
Asked by: Redtank
No, it's not that deep reddish color. It's brown with a slightly orange hue. I would say medium color wood (not light, not dark).

KIT-ALTON CHERRY FULL PLATFORM BED is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 409.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective Design -- Hasn't Lasted Six Months Wish I had read other reviews before buying. Bed looks great but is poorly designed. The support pegs down the middle slide and crack when any weight is on the bed. Six months into the purchase, all the support pegs are split and/or dislodged from the frame and the new mattress, bought at the same time of the frame , is sagging. As other reviews have noted, the frame is also not a standard size. Totally sucks and have to buy a new bed now. Boo, Living Spaces!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SQEAKS wayyy to much! This bed looks good, but it not sturdy at all. It squeaks, and we have had to fix it constantly. I would have returned it if I could for no cost. Unfortunately have to bear with it. Will definitely not recommend .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never again. I bought the bed because it was more affordable than another company that makes the same design. The bed squeaks and creaks so much and when I asked if it was faulty and could do a replacement they told me my only option was to purchase a replacement kit. Honestly, I had to purchase window stripping foam and shove in all of the wood on wood spots. It still squeaks but not as much. Also, there is a gap between the mattress and the frame. I’ve tried 2 different mattresses so I’m guessing it’s the frame.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap Product, not returning as customer I will never buy furniture from this store again. My bed from Rooms to Go was much better quality than the bed we bought here. We have had the pegs that go to the floor from the rails snap twice. Once they came out to fix it, and now they are basically saying it’s our problem, that is....whenever you can actually get a hold of someone to talk to. Our furniture looks great, but a bed that breaks twice in a year is absolutely ridiculous. There are so many other fantastic furniture places online now, I will not be returning as a Living Spaces customer.
