Can I put a box spring and mattress on this frame?

Or can I adjust the slats to make the mattress taller?
Asked by: amas2337
I would not recommend putting a box frame on this bed. It's not needed so the slats aren't adjustable and if you put a box frame, it'll stick out and you'll see it. I was told in the store that they sell a small/thinner box frame type thing to go along with this bed in case you have a thin mattress or a memory foam thats thin. I imagine its the right size so it doesn't stick out and then you can have your mattress taller. I guess it'll have your mattress lay right where the frame is. Because I have a traditional spring mattress with a topper on top of it, they didn't recommend the box spring thing. Hope that helps!

Is there any assembly required?

Will this bed be delivered fully assembled? If yes, can it be taken apart to transport? It cannot be delivered to our beach house so I have to deliver it to our main residence.
Asked by: Annie
The bed is delivered unassembled, but assembly is included in the delivery price. Ours took only 15 minutes to assemble with those pro Living Spaces folks. It can be taken apart and transported, although I believe the headboard might not be worth it to disassemble completely.

does this bed need box spring?

Asked by: andyyao
Nope! It has slats that act as mattress support.

How far apart are the slats?

Looking to use this for a memory foam.
Asked by: jonizzle
Slats look about 2-2.5" apart. I purchased a bunky board in which was placed on top of the slats to support my foam mattress. That'll prevent uneven wear on your mattress. (Note, it does make the bed pretty high and mattress doesn't sit in the frame.

What are the exact dimensions of the queen mattress that would fit exactly into the bed frame?

What are the dimensions of the inside of the frame where the mattress would fit? One reviewer noted that there was a 5 inch discrepancy between their queen mattress and the space within the bed frame for it.
Asked by: FABulou5
It's a terrible queen sized frame. At 63", It's 5" too wide for most queen mattresses, which is 60" standard for high end mattresses with cushioning. The Alton is also 85.5" long, which is 5.5" longer than a standard queen mattress. It doesn't make sense on why Living Spaces made a queen sized bed, that's not queen sized. There's no queen mattress that's going to fit this frame, which is too bad, because it's a good looking frame, but if your mattress has massive gaps everywhere it's useless. DON'T BUY this frame! 63"W x 85.5"D x 46.8"H

How many slats are on the queen Alton?

Is a bunky board suggested?
Asked by: MDugganCA
Didn't count them, but there are lots of slats. No need to place a board on top for support. We have a foam mattress on it and it is great.

Wood color

I have furniture that is mahogany in color. Is the color cherry similar? I want something in the same family of color.
Asked by: Redtank
No, it's not that deep reddish color. It's brown with a slightly orange hue. I would say medium color wood (not light, not dark).

What are the dimensions of the box the bed ships in? I'd like to pick it up in store but am not sure it will fit my car.

Asked by: Nihaopizza
I’d say pick it up in a truck. Unless you’re driving an SUV with fold down seats it will not fit in a car.

Does the bed have metal parts? like center support or base for slats? or it's all wood?

Asked by: rachelrozen
This bed has four additional support legs running the length of the bed. The bed has no metal parts but a wood frame & slats. Living Spaces assembled the whole bed for me.

Is it solid wood or laminate?

Is the back board and legs laminate? Does it scratch easy? thanks
Asked by: Freddy
These are solid wood not laminate. I wouldn’t say it’d scratch ‘easy’ but it doesn’t look like there’s tons of layers of lacquer so I’d make sure to treat it well.

KIT-ALTON CHERRY CALIFORNIA KING PLATFORM BED is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 267.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great set for a fair price! This is actually the second time I have purchased this bed platform & headboard. I have the matching dresser & bedside table and could be more stoked on how it brings my room together. Really fair price compared to what's out there if you are looking for quality mid-century modern.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, especially for the price I got this bed for our guest room. It's a good knock off of the acorn mid century modern bed from West Elm. I placed a WE rug under it, and WE bedding. Looks great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality, Affordable MCM Style I adore mid-century modern (MCM) style and haven't bought a nice bed--well, ever. Our other bed (from a well-known Swedish retailer) didn't age well. After ten years some pieces had fallen off, it creaked all the time, and got to feeling too small and too low to the ground. After searching online for a year and a half, I decided on the Alton Cherry Queen Platform Bed! Could I have gone with a more expensive item? Yes, but after perusing websites and beds for so long and reading numerous positive reviews on this model, I felt that this classic MCM style is a great backbone for our bedroom remodel. The golden red-brown color of the wood even matched some handmade cypress furniture that my husband's dad had built! We opted to have the furniture delivered and assembled and I think that was money well spent, since the store itself was some miles away. Plus, setup was fast and courteous and we were saved the headache of trying to figure out the build. I also purchased the nightstand, and I am thrilled with both!
