Living Spaces has taken an active role in positively shaping the communities we're so proud to be a part of, which is why we've pledged our financial support for key organizations that share our same core values. In 2014, Living Spaces donated over $200,000 to organizations such as Furnishing Hope, Special Olympics Southern California and the 100 Club of Arizona. And we're on our way to contributing at least as much to our supported organizations for 2015.
Furnishing Hope's mission is to improve the living space for people in crisis one room at a time; to provide a home-like environment for kids and families in stressful situations. Recipients of Furnishing Hope's charitable work include the American Red Cross, Habitat For Humanity, Rising Tides, Veterans First, and Wounded Warriors.
We've joined forces with a team of professional interior designers volunteering at Furnishing Hope to make life more comfortable for those who are less fortunate. Since working with this organization, Living Spaces donated over $50,000 worth of furniture from our showrooms to help furnish the rooms of deserving families' homes. Each interior is created to suit the tastes of each individual family and, of course, they get to keep all furniture and accessories furnishing their home.
Cpl. Kionte Storey served his country for 5 years before his tour of duty was cut short due to an injury sustained from an IED. As a result of this encounter, Kionte lost his right leg and suffered Compartment Syndrome and nerve damage to his left one. In addition to this, he suffers from PTSD and TBI.
We donated a $2,500 Living Spaces card to Kionte in hopes of improving his living conditions.
The aim of the 100 Club of Arizona is to provide immediate financial assistance and helpful resources to families of public safety officers and firefighters who are seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.
Living Spaces is proud to support a virtuous organization like the 100 Club of Arizona.
When our Scottsdale store opened in August 2013, we wanted to commemorate the sacrifice made by local law enforcement officers and firefighters by donating $10,000 to the 100 Club of Arizona.
To further assist the families of these fallen heroes, Living Spaces donated a $1,000 gift card each to be auctioned at these charitable events hosted by the 100 Club of Arizona: The 7th Annual Jason Schechterle Scholarship Ball and the 46th Annual Tribute Banquet.
Andrew Ashcraft was an elite firefighter who perished whilst fighting the Yarnell Hill wildfire in Arizona. He was survived by Juliann Ashcraft and four small children.
A few months had passed and Juliann bravely carried on with her life, eventually moving to a home in Queen Creek, AZ. Her financial situation dictated that she wouldn't be able to properly furnish this new home, so she sent a wish list for Living Spaces furniture to the 100 Club of Arizona and we made her wish a reality by contributing a $5,000 Living Spaces gift card.
Like Juliann Ashcraft, Marsena Thurston also lost her husband, Joe Thurston, to the Yarnell Hill wildfire. Not only was she left alone to raise her two young children but she was also denied benefits from the government because Joe was considered a "part-time" firefighter.
To help the Thurston family rebuild their lives, we worked with the 100 Club of Arizona to give the family a $5,000 Living Spaces gift card.
The Special Olympics Southern California provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy.
On March 2, 2013, "A World of Difference" dinner & auction presented by the Special Olympics Southern California not only celebrated the champion spirit exemplified by participants of the Special Olympics, but also raised financial support for the continued success of this organization.
To help contribute to the viability of the Special Olympics Southern California, we donated a $1,500 Living Spaces gift card to be auctioned off at this event. Furthermore, we donated another $1,500 gift card to the 2014 "A World of Difference" dinner & auction to ensure the continued success of the Special Olympics Southern California.
The saying goes that children are our most precious resource, so when this resource is threatened by severe medical conditions the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Orange County, IE makes it their priority to grant these children's dreams in order to provide them with hope, strength and joy.
Living Spaces is thrilled to work with such a noble group like Make-A-Wish Foundation of OC/IE. Through our combined efforts, these are just some accounts of how these children's dreams became a reality.
5 year old Kylee from Laguna Hills, CA had a wish common amongst other young girls: A Dora the Explorer themed bedroom. With the assistance of Make-A-Wish OC/IE, Living Spaces granted Kylee her wish with a $2,000 gift card to help realize her dream bedroom.
The second wish came from 7 year old Luis from San Jacinto, CA. Luis shared a room with his sisters so he wished for his own personal space complete with furniture to call his own. We happily obliged by contributing a $2,200 gift card to Luis so he can furnish a living space of his very own.
Thanks to the continued efforts of local law enforcement, the city of Irvine, California is statistically one of the safest communities in the entire nation. The brave men and women of Irvine law enforcement give so much to the community, so the Irvine Police Association sees to it that these officers of the law are given the support they rightly deserve. And since we're also glad to be a part of the Irvine community, we fully support the Irvine Police Association so that Irvine will remain an ideal community to work, play, and live in.
For two consecutive years since 2013, Living Spaces donated a $1,500 check in support of the Irvine Police Association's Annual Concert on the Green & Fireworks Festival held on the 4th of July. This festival not only featured live band performances and a massive aerial firework show but also a tribute to families of Active Duty Military Personnel.
For the past 23 years and counting, enthusiastic runners hit the streets of Brea in the Brea 8K Classic. This time-honored hometown event not only promotes fun, fitness, and community spirit, but also crucial funding for Brea Olinda High School.
We've invested in the educational future of children living in this local community by donating $5,000 in support of the 22nd and 23rd Annual Brea 8K Classic race. These proceeds from the race help provide major funding for such educational programs as student scholars, choir, GITA and Instrumental Music and Color Guard.
