Product Q & A

Can I put a box spring and mattress on this frame?

Or can I adjust the slats to make the mattress taller?
Asked by: amas2337
I would not recommend putting a box frame on this bed. It's not needed so the slats aren't adjustable and if you put a box frame, it'll stick out and you'll see it. I was told in the store that they sell a small/thinner box frame type thing to go along with this bed in case you have a thin mattress or a memory foam thats thin. I imagine its the right size so it doesn't stick out and then you can have your mattress taller. I guess it'll have your mattress lay right where the frame is. Because I have a traditional spring mattress with a topper on top of it, they didn't recommend the box spring thing. Hope that helps!

How many slats are on the queen Alton?

Is a bunky board suggested?
Asked by: MDugganCA
Didn't count them, but there are lots of slats. No need to place a board on top for support. We have a foam mattress on it and it is great.

What are the exact dimensions of the queen mattress that would fit exactly into the bed frame?

What are the dimensions of the inside of the frame where the mattress would fit? One reviewer noted that there was a 5 inch discrepancy between their queen mattress and the space within the bed frame for it.
Asked by: FABulou5
The inside space for a mattress to sit in is: 61" x 82." With the size of my mattress, there was a 3-1/2 inch gap to spare that was taken up, and hidden, by tucking the coverlet under the mattress, and pillow shams with other pillows. There are 3-1/4 inches between slats that are held together and spaced evenly by straps. You will not fee the slats under the mattress.

Does the bed have metal parts? like center support or base for slats? or it's all wood?

Asked by: rachelrozen
This bed has four additional support legs running the length of the bed. The bed has no metal parts but a wood frame & slats. Living Spaces assembled the whole bed for me.

What is the measurement for under bed storage space?

The inches measured from the base of the bed to the floor?
Asked by: Aces
There are four additional leg supports that run down the middle of the length of this bed. The clear storage area, (between the regular legs of the bed), for each side is 81.5" x 30.75" x 9.25" high. The foot of the bed 60" x 16.5"

what is the height of the headboard alone

I have a mattress that is 16" and want to be sure there will be enough headboard showing.
Asked by: anneto
Measuring from floor to height of headboard (without posts) is 46." Measuring from the slats to the top of the headboard (without posts) is 33-1/2." The bed posts are about 1/2" higher than the top of the headboard.

What is the spacing between the slats? Does it have a center support?

The mattress we are getting specifies a width of no more than 4 inches between slats and it must have a center support.
Asked by: Rren
The Alton Cherry Queen Platform Bed will feature slats that are 3 inches apart. Additionally, it will have center support.

How deep between the slats and the top of the bed frame without the mattress?

Is there room for low profile box spring?
Asked by: LCSJ
The Alton Cherry Queen Platform Bed will feature 2" from the top of the bed side rails to the slats. Additionally, a low profile box spring will be too high for a mattress. You will want to look at our bunky boards as this will keep the mattress proportionate to the headboard as seen in the product image. Reviews
KIT-ALTON CHERRY QUEEN PLATFORM BED is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 60.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, Well-Made I chose this bed because I like a classic, clean look. It looks great in my bedroom, and its well-made. My only complaint is that I'll need to get a new comforter, to cover my mattress, but that has nothing to do with the bed itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and Functional I live in a condo so although there were other more elaborate beds I liked a bit better, I couldn't beat the simplicity and price of this one. It fits perfectly in my space, and it was assembled upon delivery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic look and sturdy too I have to admit when buying this I was a little iffy about the sturdiness. The legs are peg style and I wasn't sure how that would support me and my partner's bodies. Now that it is in our home and we've had the chance to rest weight on it, we see that is not the case. The bed is sturdy, does not creak and is nice and heavy. The color is a nice pop on our dark walls and fits into our midcentury Bungalow well. I hope it last because it's a classic piece.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excelent product I bought my bed at Living Spaces (Fremont) and I really loved. The product is really good, the delivery was fast and the assembly was fine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from TOO SQUEAKY! The reviews were great minus a couple of other people mentioning that their bed was too squeaky as well. A friend of mine had purchased this bed and said hers was great so I went for it. I'm a very light sleeper and the squeaking is so loud and caused by the slightest movement that it's hard to sleep. I contacted their support and they wanted a $99 fee to have it checked/replaced. I'm very disappointed and it's safe to say that I should have went with the more expensive version of this bed. I don't think I'll buy from Living Spaces again.
